Agate Bay is also known as Skwaam Bay

Location and Access

Drive north toward Barriere, but turn onto the Agate Bay Road at Louis Creek.   Drive for km eat down to Adams Lake.   At the signed four-way intersection go straight down to a boat launch (or go to the Rec Site at km 21 (north).

Launch

We have launched from both locations.   The launch at the head of the bay is next to Agate Bay Resort so check for permission first.   The launch at the Skwaam Bay Rec site is a hand-launch site.

Routes

We paddled out of the bay (2.5 km) then across the lake (another 2.6 km to a pocket beach for lunch and back.   We have also paddled up the shoreline to the north on a windier day.   Paddlers can stay inside the bay, cross the lake or go north or south on the lake creating routes from 5km – 20 km.  Crossing the lake when winds are forecast to come up will not be the best choice.

Features

  • clear and clean lake water
  • not many boats, except in the bay during summer weekends
  • lots of pocket beaches on the east side of the lake
  • undeveloped shorelines
  • when the lake is windy, avoid crossings; stay close to the shoreline
